Modern Smart Home vs. The Jetsons’ Home
If you aren’t familiar with this little piece of Americana, The Jetsons was a 1960’s cartoon about what life in America might look like 100 years in the future. It’s hard to believe this show first aired more than fifty years ago. We’re about halfway there! So where are the flying cars and robot nannies? They’ll be here before you know it, but they probably won’t be affordably available for quite some time. On the other hand, we’ve come a long way in a few other categories, especially around the home.
You’d be surprised how many ‘Jetson Age’ technologies are actually in common use today; many of which are probably sitting in your living room right now. In this article we’ll dive a bit deeper into which futuristic predictions have come true from the Jetsons TV show or are expected to be available soon.
We’ve Surpassed The Jetsons in Televisions, Watches, Tablets, and Video Phones
Flat screen televisions probably seemed pretty futuristic in 1962. With the advent of 3D televisions, curved screens, and 4K ultra HD picture quality, we’ve already surpassed the wildest dreams any Jetson character might have had regarding televisions.
Most characters on the Jetsons sported small watches with screens that allowed them to stream live television or communicate via video chat. A recent tech gadget, the smartwatch, can handle these tasks and more with relative ease. Moseley electronics can even set it so you can control your lights, music, and live surveillance video around your home from a smartphone, smartwatch, or tablet.
Those aren’t the only areas we’ve surpassed Jetson technology. George Jetson would sit and read his newspaper from a screen, a concept not unlike modern-day iPads. George would have gotten quite a kick out of portable iPads and tablets, which can be connected to every aspect of your home.
We’re at Least Tied Against The Jetsons for Home Appliances
The Jetsons had an adorable little robot vacuum cleaner, but we’d like to see how it would match up against the sleek iRobot Roomba vacuum. While they haven’t hit the market yet, several companies are working on 3D printers that actually print and cook food, which will probably be able to rival the Jetsons’ food machines very soon. Mechanical tooth brushes, speaking alarm clocks, and many other wild gadgets have already hit the market!
Turn Your Home into a ‘Smart Home’
What if a light automatically turned on when you opened a closet or pantry door? Can you imagine being able to unlock your door or close your garage from a click on a smartphone? Would you like to be able to turn on all the lights inside and out without having to get out of the car? Smart home technology is revolutionizing the way people interact with their homes and bringing us closer to the “Age of the Jetsons” than ever before.
In the meantime, you’ll have to keep waiting for flying cars that fold into a briefcase and robot nannies that take care of cooking and cleaning. When it does happen, we’ll be the first to let you know!
